How to find and read materials in the knowledge base
There are several ways to find materials in the knowledge base.
- You can search the knowledge base using the "Find" box at the top right of every page.
- You can navigate the list of pages at the left of every page. Pages are organized in a heirarchy of pages and sub-pages. Click any > symbol to show sub-pages. Click again to hide sub-pages.
- You can click the "Tools" menu at the top of any page, and select from these options:
- Contributions gives a list of the pages that you have contributed to (if any).
- Sitemap gives a heirarchical map of the pages in the TOW Knowledge Base
- Popular pages shows you a list of the most-viewed pages, in order of views.
- You can click on links you find anywhere in the articles.
How to download and print materials
There are several ways to download and/or print materials from the knowledge base
- At the bottom of each article there is a section called "Files." You can download Microsoft Word and/or PDF versions of the article there. Once you download the article you can print it from your computer.
- You can also use the "Print Page" function (found near the top of each article) to print and/or download a copy of the article as it appears on this knowledge base. Click on "Print Page" and follow the instructions to print or download, as desired.
Register (create an account)
You will need to register on this site if you want make comments, tag articles, proposed edits, contribute examples/cases/illustrations, or attach documents, pictures, videos or other materials. All that is required is that you give a valid email address. You can register by clicking the "register" button at the top of this (or any) page.
Comment on materials
Registered users can comment on articles. To register, you must create an account. Once you have an account, and you are logged in, go to the bottom of the article to the Comment section. Type in your comment and click "add comment."
Add examples/cases/illustrations or other materials in an article
and/or propose changes to an article.
Registered users can contribute examples/cases/illustrations and/or proose edits to articles. To do so click the "Edit Draft" button at the top of the article. A set of buttons will appear. These buttons work similarly to editing buttons in a word processor, although fewer functions are available. If all you want to do is type or paste materials, you probably will not need any of the buttons other than "Save" -- and perhaps "Cancel" -- at the top left.
Scroll to the place where you want to add materials, and begin typing. You can also paste text from your word processor or any other source, rather than typing it. Don't worry about messing up the article -- you are actually working with a copy, not the real article. If you make a mistake that you can't fix -- or if you want to cancel your edit for any other reason -- just click the "Cancel" button near the top left of the editor buttons.
When you are finished, click "Save" (just below the "Edit Draft" icon). One of the TOW Project editors will review your contribution or proposed change and may edit it before it incorporating it into the live version of the article.
Attach a document, picture, video or other file
Registered users can upload and attach documents, pictures, videos or other files. If you want to attach a document, picture, video or other file, scroll to the bottom of the article and click the "attach file or image" button instead of the "Edit Draft" function described above.
Be notified of new materials or changes to articles of interest to you
At present, the TOW Knowledge Base is unable to permit users to self-register (create an account). This function is expected to be added in late 2010. Until then, you may request an account by emailing a request to editor@theologyofwork.org. Request will generally be answered within one week.
Registered users can request to be notified of additions, changes, and/or comments. There are several methods:
- Email notification. Most articles have an icon to the right of the article title that you can click to subscribe to be notified via email of changes to the article.
- Watched pages. You can choose to "watch" any page(s) in the TOW Knowledge Base. Click "More" near the top of any page (next to the "Print page" icon), and select "Watch page." From then on, all changes to the page will be included in your "Watched Pages." To view your "Watched Pages," click "Tools" at the top of any page, and select "Watched Pages." Alternatively, you can choose to have your Watched Pages sent you as an RSS feed (see below for instructions.) You can stop watching a page by clicking "More" and selecting "Unwatch page."
- RSS feeds. You can subscribe to RSS feeds from the TOW Knowledge Base. Click "Tools" at the top of any page, and select "RSS Feeds." You will be offered a variety of RSS Feed options. Note that one option is to have your watched pages turned into your own personalized RSS Feed.
