Processes for applying the Bible to Work

Table of contents

This page is under development. At present it is restricted to Steering Committee members.

Mission

From the beginning, the TOW Project committed itself to give readers processes and methods for applying the Bible to the 21st century workplace. Exactly how to do that has not been determined yet. At present the Theological Foundations Committee is exploring several aspects.

  1. What are the theological foundations that Steering Committee members bring into the Project's work?
  2. What are the methods the Project (and others?) are using to apply the Bible to work?
  3. What materials need to be written and included among the Project's output? Possibilities include:
    • The Theology of Work Statement (or Covenant). This is a brief statement of the most significant findings of the Project's research. It has been included in the Project's mission statement from the beginning.
    • An Introduction about how to apply the Bible to work.

Members

Members of the Theological Foundations Committee are Katherine Leary (interim chair), Bill Hendricks, Clint Le Bruyns,  Alistair Mackenzie and Gordon Preece. Will Messenger participates ex officio. In addition, all Steering Committee members are invited to participate fully in all of the Committee's meetings.

Meetings

January 26, 2011

The Theological Foundations Committee is scheduled to meet on Wed., January 26 from 7:00  to 9:00 pm, with the following agenda:

  1. Elect a chair.
  2. Determine the goals and dates for the Committee's work, culminating in:
    • A Discussion Draft of the TOW Statement (or Covenant) in time for ratification by the end of 2013
    • Materials to help the Project's audiences learn how to apply the Bible to the 21st century workplace. These materials will show how the Project did its work in the biblical and key topic articles and also help readers do their own work for their particular situations. Al Erisman submitted a draft Introduction to the Theology of Work as a step towards the first of these objectives.
  3. Assign a member to collate the index cards the Steering Committee wrote in August 2009 and create a draft of members' theological foundations/assumptions.
  4. Other business as members may decide.
